Certification and Accreditation

Over the last twenty-five years law enforcement has taken significant steps to become a recognized profession. The Tyngsborough Police Department has joined that effort, and in doing so has embraced several programs that put us on that path.

One of these programs is “state accreditation” through the Massachusetts State Accreditation Commission.  State accreditation provides standards that set an effective, efficient and professional delivery of law enforcement services. These standards are consistent and are applicable to department within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  There are two levels of accreditation, certification and accreditation.

In 2010 the Tyngsborough Police Department became the 38th agency in Massachusetts to become certified. There are many benefits to becoming accredited, these include providing a recognized set of standards that all law enforcement agencies operate under and it also limits liability. The Tyngsborough Police will soon complete re-certification, and once this goal is reached we will move toward full accreditation.
