School Resource Officer Division

The Tyngsborough Police Department has established the School Resource Officer (SRO) Division which is dedicated to serving the student population and their families, as well as the staff, faculty, and administration of each school.

The SRO adopts a multi-functional role not only serving as an advocate for Tyngsborough youth, but acting as an informal teacher, role model, and a source of information, with the ability to connect children and their families to specific resources. With a constant presence in the schools, our SRO’s provide easily accessible support for students. In the classroom, the SRO offers education on topics such as search and seizure, constitutional rights, criminal law, and alcohol/drug abuse.

While the principal focus is prevention and deterrence, the SRO conducts all criminal investigations on school grounds. This is coordinated with the building administrator. Although under the direct supervision of the Police Department, the SRO is also considered a member of the school faculty and as such, works closely with the school administration to determine the best course of action

Our dedicated SRO Officers bring a comprehensive and personalized approached to policing that positively impacts the youth of our community. Below are just some of the programs and benefits available to Tyngsborough youth through the SRO Division.

In partnership with the school, TPD provides substance abuse education classes to assist in preparing students to hit the road safely. These classes utilize "drunk goggles" that allow students to see how their depth perception and vision are significantly impacted when under the influence of alcohol.
