Motorcycle Program

The Tyngsborough Police Motorcycle Unit was established in 2008.  The department leases two Harley Davidson Police Electra Glide motorcycles biennially for the program.  Currently, our motorcycle unit consists of six members of all ranks within our agency.  Officers assigned to the unit ride while patrolling, answering calls for service, conducting directed patrols such as traffic enforcement, and assisting with events such as parades and those involving crowds.  Another role they fill is with police escorts, such as dignitary escorts, veterans on Memorial Day, and respectfully with funerals.

To be eligible to be a member of the Tyngsborough Police Motor Unit, officers must attend an arduous two week police m

otorcycle school, the curriculum of which  was designed by the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety, in Chicago IL, in partnership with Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

Tyngsborough Police motorcycles are also used as one aspect of department’s inclusion in N.E.M.L.E.C. (Northeastern Mas

sachusetts Law Enforcement Council), as part of the N.E.M.L.E.C. Motorcycle Unit.  Officers assigned to the N.E.M.L.E.C. Motor Unit assist outside law enforcement agencies with events in their communities, such as escorting dignitaries, funerals, road races, fallen military, and other various duties.  They also add security and police presence for large events in N.E.M.L.E.C. communities as well as outside agencies requesting their assistance.  Recent events they assisted with include; patrolling the streets of Lawrence during the devastating gas explosions, safety and security at the Boston Marathon, assistance with the championship games of the major Boston sports teams as well as the following victory parades, and keeping the peace at several protests.

The Tyngsborough Police Motorcycle Unit is committed to enforcing traffic laws and to the well being of the vehicular and pedestrian traffic in our community.
