Tyngsborough Police Department Receives $25,644 Grant in Support of Municipal Road Safety Program

Chief Rich Howe is pleased to announce that the Tyngsborough Police Department has been awarded $25,644 in grant funding to improve road safety.

The $25,644 grant funds were made available by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS) and allocated by the Office of Grants and Research (OGR). This funding will be used to support the Municipal Road Safety Program, which assists in developing enforcement strategies to reduce roadway crashes, injuries, fatalities, and associated economic losses in Massachusetts.

The Tyngsborough Police Department will use the funds to boost traffic enforcement campaigns focused on impaired driving throughout the month of December.

“Roadway deaths are never more tragic than they are during the holiday season, so we will be on patrol watching for impaired drivers as we seek to keep the residents of Tyngsborough safe,” said Chief Howe. “I want to thank the state for this important grant funding, and to encourage every driver to get a ride with someone else if you’re impaired. Getting behind the wheel while under the influence is never worth the risk.”

About the FY 2023 Municipal Road Safety Grant Program

The Office of Grants and Research (OGR) allocated $5,000,000 in Fiscal Year 2023 grant funding to municipal police departments within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The grants are designed to provide substantial flexibility in addressing local traffic safety issues, allowing funding beyond enforcement to include equipment options and developing novel traffic safety programs.
